Wang Yeh Burning Boat Festival Taiwan

Matt Gibson —  October 23, 2009 — 8 Comments

burning boat 090The Wang Yeh boat burning festival occurs once every three years.  Disease spreading ghosts, or Wang Yeh, are lead onto the boats by priests and mediums.  The boat, sitting atop a mountain of ghost money (money burned by locals for the benefit of their dead ancestors) is then burned, sending the spirits back to their world, hopefully taking their plagues with them.  This year, I believe, there was a special focus on H1N1 (the Swine Flu).

  5. Thanks Tracy. That’s too bad. It would have been nice to have known somebody there. But, I wouldn’t have been much fun. I was running around like a crazy man trying to shoot everything. You can read an article I wrote about it here:

  6. Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for inexperienced blog writers? I’d genuinely appreciate it.
